Pitching Struggles

So far regarding starting pitching the last two nights should we worry? Roy Oswalt pitched 7 innings but in the effort surrendered 11 hits! Along with all those hits, came 5 runs. Roy Oswalt just came back a few weeks ago off the disabled list because of problems with his back. After coming back he had a strong outing in his first return but nothing special. Over the course of his next few starts, you begun to see life again in his pitching and made you believe that he would be a great fourth man in your rotation going into the playoffs. Last night was another story. Oswalt didn't have his best stuff and the game didn't go in his favor either. It made you think, should you go with experience? Or should you take the hot hand in Vance Worley and give him a shot? Personally I think you always go with experience because Roy has been there before and knows what it is like to pitch in major pitching situations.

Cole Hamels tonight so far from what I saw, is just having a bad outing. No matter what a pitcher can't always be completely perfect. Hamel's overall throughout most of this year has been an outstanding pitcher and the record shows. Bouncing back from a rough few previous years, reflecting his outstanding 2008 year when he was simply in one word, "amazing", he was MVP of the World Series, what more can you ask for. After realizing the exceptions that everyone has, he began to work harder and it shows.

Nobody is perfect and that is why these two pitchers work hard every day leading up to their turn to throw on the mound giving the Phillies every chance to win. We shouldn't worry about these bad outings, unless it begins to be something that is on a constant basis.
